Six Proven Ways of Driving Traffic to Your Website

Many bloggers believe that posting high quality content on a regular basis is the key to driving traffic to their website. They start blogging with the mindset that if they build it and update it regularly, people will automatically come to their website. I wish I could tell you that driving traffic to your website is as simple as this.
Once upon a time, posting quality content on a regular basis was all that was needed to rank on the first page of Google and to drive traffic to your website.
I’m sure all bloggers wish this to be true today. I mean, it would mean less work for us bloggers, right?
Sadly, it’s time for us to wake up and realize that we’re living in 2017. It seems like every other person today is creating a website so the competition for Google’s front page is fierce. Everybody wants to be at the top and not buried on the 20th page of Google where nobody will be able to find their website.
Ask any blogger “what is the number one thing you struggle with the most?” I bet most of them will tell you that the number one struggle is finding ways to drive traffic to their website.
Most bloggers mistakenly place all of their eggs in one basket, but the key to success is to diversify the number of ways you drive traffic to your website.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you should focus on every method at once. Start with one method and once you’ve mastered that method, add another method.
In this post, I am going to share six ways to drive traffic to your website.
1. Social Media Marketing
If your blog is relatively new, social media marketing is probably a great place to start. I used to think social media was a complete waste of time, but that was before I started blogging. Now, I spend a ton of time on social media getting the word out. If you want social media marketing to work for you, you got to be social.
Billions of people use social media every day, so the market for this is huge. Once you share something on social media, your followers have the opportunity to share it with their followers, who have the opportunity to share it with their followers, and so on. It can be a never ending cycle and it can really help bring in some serious traffic.
Some of the top social media platforms to spread awareness about your online business are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+. Social media not only increases the recognition of your blog, but it also improves the loyalty that your readers feel towards you and your blog.
Start joining Facebook groups and become an active member in those groups. Use Twitter to develop relationships with influencers and tweet to them. Join Google+ communities and become an active member in those communities by posting and commenting on other peoples’ posts. Join group boards on Pinterest and pin hundreds of times a day.
Pinterest is my personal favorite social media network to use for driving traffic. I know how time consuming manually pinning hundreds of pins a day can be. For this reason, I highly recommend you invest in a Pinterest Automation tool, such as Board Booster. 2. Forum Marketing
Forum marketing is probably one of the most underutilized methods of driving traffic to your website, but so highly effective.
When you start marketing your blog on a forum, don’t make it seem like the only reason you’re on the forum is to drive traffic to your website. Forums are much more than that. Forums are all about helping others out and in turn, they’ll help you out.
You can either start a new thread or join old threads. Both of these options have tremendous value. New threads tend to be quite popular and at the top of the list. Old threads, on the other hand, tend to have a ton of comments. When you join an old thread, all of the people that are subscribed to that thread will be notified that someone has added a new comment to the thread. Many of the subscribers on the old thread may not care anymore about that thread and may just end up ignoring the notification. For this reason, I do prefer commenting on newer, active threads.
Most forums allow you to use a signature when posting a comment. You can insert a link to your website in the signature area. You can also insert a link to your website in the discussion section. If you decide to place a link to your website in the discussion section, remember to keep the link relevant to the topic of the thread. In other words, don’t spam the forum. Spamming is against the rules on many forums and you may get kicked out if you break the rules. Each forum has rules that you should read to avoid being banned from that forum.
Remember that forums aren’t just about you. Forums are an opportunity to join a community. When someone adds a comment to the thread, it’s important to follow up and add more value to the thread.
3. Search Engine Optimizing your Website
The best kind of traffic is the organic kind. Once you’ve learned how to Search Engine Optimize your website, Google will do all of the work for you.

The first step to search engine optimizing your website is to download an SEO plugin. The plugin I use and highly recommend is Yoast SEO. This plugin will tell you just how SEO friendly your blog posts are as well as how readable your posts are. Yoast SEO will also give you tips on how to improve your blog posts so that they are more readable and SEO friendly. Yoast SEO is updated on a regular basis to keep up with Google’s changing algorithm.
Downloading the Yoast SEO plugin isn’t enough to search engine optimize your website. This plugin only deals with the on-page SEO aspect of your website. The second step to search engine optimizing your website is to deal with the off-page SEO aspect. The off-page SEO aspect is all about building high quality backlinks to your website as well as ranking for the right keywords.
The next step after downloading the Yoast SEO plugin is to find long tail keywords to rank for. If your blog is relatively new, you should start by finding low competition keywords to rank for. I recommend using the Long Tail Pro software to rank for long tail keywords. Don’t worry about the cost of this software, it will eventually pay for itself and it really does help you rank.
The last step to search engine optimizing your website is to build a ton of backlinks. A backlink is an incoming hyperlink that links from one website to another website. You want other websites to link to your website. You might be tempted to go on websites like fiverr and buy backlinks, but remember it is quality over quantity. Google isn’t stupid and it knows the difference between high quality and low quality. It is better to build 10 high quality backlinks than it is to build 100 low quality backlinks. 4. Guest Posting
Another way to drive traffic to your website is by guest posting on someone else’s blog. Most bloggers that accept guest posts also allow guest bloggers to include a link back to their website in the about me section (or even in the post itself). Guest posting is a great way to build high quality backlinks as well.
Try to find bloggers that are in the same niche as you. Then, go to their website and see if they accept guest posts. You should be able to find out whether a blog accepts guest posts by visiting their contact page. If you’re not able to find the information anywhere on their website, contact them and ask them if it’s okay for you to guest post on their website.
Another way to find guest bloggers is by utilizing the power of social media. Join Facebook groups, such as Blogging SEO Content Guest Posting, and post a comment to let the followers know that you are looking for guest posting opportunities. Twitter search can also be used to find guest posting opportunities. A basic twitter search with the words “guest post” or “guest blogging” will return any tweets containing those words. Reach out to those people and let them know that you are interested in guest posting on their website. Join Google+ communities, such as Guest Blogger, and reach out to people who are looking for guest bloggers. Message other bloggers on Pinterest and ask if they are willing to accept a guest post from you.
There are multiple ways to find guest posting opportunities and it’s a great way to build relationships with bloggers in your niche. Guest blogging is a great way to leverage someone else’s followers by making them your followers.
5. Link Internally
Internal links are links that go from one page to another page on the same domain. The search engine optimization of your website isn’t just determined by how many other websites link back to your website. Internal linking also plays a critical role in helping your website rank higher in search engines.
The internal link you place on your webpage should be relevant to the source. For example, if I have a blog post on SEO and another blog post on healthy eating, I probably shouldn’t create an internal link for that. This is because the two topics are completely unrelated. However, if I have two blog posts on SEO, it’s ok to link them together.
Don’t try to link to another blog post just for the sake of creating internal links. The link you place on your blog post should flow very well with the content on that page. Another thing you may want to consider when linking to another page on your website is how authoritative the page you want to link to is. Some pages tend to attract a lot more traffic than other pages. Therefore, it’s best to link to a page that is higher up in search engines. You can check the ranking of your website using a tool called Serpbook.
Some major benefits of internal links are that it increases page views and reduces the bounce rate of your website. A visitor may visit one of your blog posts and then leave your website without checking out any of your other pages on your website. However, if you have an internal link within that blog post, the visitor may click on that link and spend more time on another page of your website. The bounce rate of a website is defined as the percentage of visitors that spend little time on your website. The lower this number, the better it is. Internal links are the easiest links to manage because you have complete control over what is linked within your website. Internal links may not have the same amount of link juice as external links, but they are definitely worth something and should not be ignored if you want to rank higher in Google and drive more traffic to your website.
6. Paid Advertising
This method of driving traffic to your website can be highly effective, but it’s probably best to save this method for last because it will cost you. If you have money to spare, then paid advertising is probably worth it. However, if you can’t afford to lose any money right now, this isn’t exactly a method I would consider using.
I have to be honest. I prefer doing everything for cheap and that means not spending money on expensive ads. However, if you don’t want to work hard to receive traffic, paying for ads is a simple thing to do. Paid advertising may or may not succeed unless you know who your target audience is or what your readers want.
Most of the popular social media websites sell ad space, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Search engines like Google and Bing also allow you to place ads on the top of their search results. Forums, such as Reddit, allow you to pay to be placed on the front page of their website.
The point is that there’s a ton of places to do advertising for your blog. Advertising your website can potentially bring thousands of additional visitors to your website.

Most people who visit your website will often end up forgetting that your website even exists. You need to remind them that your website is still on the web.
