Nowadays, it is very difficult to find an inexpensive, high-quality WordPress Theme. There are so many themes to choose from and so many factors to consider before choosing a theme for your website. If you don’t do enough research on the themes, you may end up regretting the theme you choose.
Many WordPress Theme Marketplaces charge hundreds of dollars for a single theme. I’ve looked around many marketplaces and shops to find the right theme for my site. I’ve even wasted money on a theme that I was very dissatisfied with before finally settling on the perfect theme for my website.
The theme that I finally settled down on was Divi by Elegant Themes. In this post, I am going to give you my honest and unbiased review of Elegant Themes. After this post, I will leave it up to you to decide whether Elegant Themes is worth the investment.
About Elegant Themes
Nick Roach founded Elegant Themes in 2008. Elegant Themes currently has 50 team members and 400,000+ satisfied customers. The themes offered by Elegant Themes are modern, sleek, beautiful, and user friendly. Elegant Themes currently has 88 WordPress Themes and 7 WordPress Plugins to choose from.
Elegant Themes provides WordPress themes for the following categories:
- App sites
- Personal use
With 88 premium WordPress themes to choose from, Elegant Themes will have a WordPress theme that suits almost any niche.
The Price of Elegant Themes
Elegant Themes provides the best premium themes at a very affordable price. There are two plans offered by Elegant Themes: a yearly access plan and a lifetime access plan. The yearly access plan costs $89 / year. If you choose not to renew your yearly access membership, you’ll lose access to premium support and updates to the themes and plugins that you use on your website. If you’d like, you can also start with the yearly access plan and then upgrade to the lifetime access plan for an additional $160 to get lifetime access and lifetime updates.
The better deal, and the plan I personally recommend, is the lifetime access plan. For a one-time fee of just $249, Elegant Themes offers lifetime access to all their themes and plugins. The lifetime access plan also comes with lifetime updates and lifetime premium support. If you are a website developer, the lifetime access plan is a must. You can use the themes offered by Elegant Themes on any number of websites, including the websites of your clients.
For a limited time, Elegant Themes is offering 10% off their yearly access plan and their lifetime access plan. Pay only $80/year with their yearly access plan and $224 with their lifetime access plan. Use the link below to get 10% off.
WordPress Plugins Included with the Elegant Themes Membership
A membership with Elegant Themes means you’ll have access to 7 great WordPress plugins. This section will give you an overview of the plugins that are offered with your Elegant Themes membership.
The Divi Builder plugin alone is a good enough reason to get a membership with Elegant Themes. Divi Builder is the ultimate drag & drop page builder plugin for any WordPress theme. This plugin makes it super easy to build stunning WordPress websites without the need to code. There are an endless number of layout possibilities that can be created to make your pages look just the way you want them to.
The Divi Builder plugin comes with 46 content modules that can be combined and arranged to create any type of website. Listed below are the 46 content modules available through the Divi Builder plugin:
The Divi Builder plugin can be used to customize absolutely everything, including the colors, spacing, and typography. This plugin also gives you complete control over the spacing of your layouts. The Divi Builder also allows you to control the spacing between columns, rows, and sections. It also allows you to control vertical spacing, horizontal spacing, and the spacing of the width of your content. You can also customize the padding and margins of each individual element. You can take the customization process a bit further by adding custom CSS to any part of the module.
The Divi Builder plugin also comes with the Divi Builder Library. The Divi Builder library allows you to save any layout, section, row, or module. Creating new pages or websites becomes extremely easy as you begin to build your very own custom library. When you’re ready to create a new website, simply export and import your library data into that website. Using already built layouts for your new site will save you hours of development time. Using already built layouts is also a really great way to jump-start the design process.
Bloom Email Opt-in
Bloom is a plugin that allows you to create an email opt-in form. If you are new to blogging, you have probably read somewhere that the money is in the list. There is a lot of truth to this. For this reason, it is important to focus on growing a list of email subscribers as early as possible. What better way to grow a list of email subscribers than to use a plugin like Bloom?
There are about 115 pre-made opt-in templates to choose from when creating an opt-in form with the Bloom plugin. Bloom allows you to customize your opt-in form any way you want it. This plugin allows you to customize the borders and edges of your opt-in forms. There’s also unlimited color options to choose from for all the elements on the form. There’s also three opt-in form orientations that you can choose from: left, bottom, or right.
You can create an opt-in form that pops up or flys-in. You can also add an opt-in form in the widget area of your website, below a post, or in the middle of a post. There’s even a locked content option where the readers can’t see your content unless they subscribe to your email list.
The opt-in forms created with the Bloom plugin are fully responsive. This ensures that your form looks great no matter the resolution or the size of the device being used to view your website.
Currently, there are 19 email marketing systems integrated into the Bloom plugin. The email marketing provider that I recommend integrating into this form is ConvertKit. It is the best email marketing provider available and it is super easy to use.
The Bloom plugin and ConvertKit are must haves for any website owner serious about building a list and making money online.
Monarch Social Sharing
Monarch is a plugin that makes it super easy for you to get more social shares on your blog posts. The social share buttons you see on the left side of this blog post are a direct result of the Monarch Social Sharing plugin. You can choose from over 20 social media networks to display on your website.
Monarch also allows you to add sharing buttons to 5 different locations on your website. You can add these sharing buttons above and/or below your content, on images and videos, as a floating sidebar (like the one on this page), and as an automatic pop-up or fly-in.
There are also 6 ways that you can trigger the automatic pop-up or automatic fly-in. These six ways are listed below:
- After a visitor leaves a comment on a post or page.
- Once a customer makes a purchase.
- After a user has been inactive on your page for too long.
- When the reader reaches the bottom of a post or page.
- After a user has scrolled a defined percentage down the page.
- After the reader of a post has been on the page for a specific duration of time.
Monarch also allows you to add follow buttons. You can choose from over 35 social networks to build and display your social following. You can place these follow buttons in any widget area or display the follow buttons with a shortcode that you can generate and paste within your content.
Another great thing about Monarch is that you can customize the design of your buttons. Monarch allows you to choose the shapes, colors, and hover effects of the buttons. Monarch also allows you to display the network name as well as the number of social counts. The Monarch plugin is also fully responsive, which means that the buttons are going to look great on any device no matter the size and resolution of the screen.
While we are still on the topic of social sharing, please share this blog post. After all, sharing is caring and I would greatly appreciate it.
Only 22 out of 88 of the themes offered by Elegant Themes are responsive. The Handheld plugin is extremely useful if the theme you are using is not a responsive, mobile-friendly theme. This plugin is also compatible with themes that are not from Elegant Themes. The Handheld plugin will help enhance the mobile experience of the user. This plugin will only show when the user is browsing your website from a mobile phone.
When you first download the Handheld plugin, the default logo is the Handheld logo. However, you can easily change this and define your own logo by going to the plugin’s settings within your WordPress dashboard. You can also easily change the colors of various parts of the Handheld theme as well, including the font color and the background color.
Today, more and more people are beginning to use their smartphones to browse websites. If the website is not responsive to the size of the device, it can create a negative browsing experience for the user. It can be frustrating having to zoom in/out and scroll all around trying to find what you’re looking for. Browsing a desktop version of a website on a mobile phone is not fun at all. Thankfully, we have the Handheld plugin for that.
The ET Shortcodes plugin adds even more functionality and variety to your content. With the number of shortcodes available within this plugin, you’ll be able to easily design and organize your post.
The ET Shortcodes plugin allows you to add a variety of buttons and content boxes onto your website. You can add small buttons, big buttons, and buttons with icons. You can even customize the color of the buttons or instantly edit the text within the button. If you want to visually grab your reader’s attention, you can use the content boxes shortcode. You can have content boxes for warnings, downloads, information, biography, or a normal box.
This plugin also allows you to create toggled content and tabbed content. If you are using toggled content, you can specify whether you want the elements to be open or close when the page downloads. Horizontal and vertical tabs are both options that you can choose from when using the tabbed content shortcode. The tabbed content shortcode also gives you the option to auto-rotate between tabs, set a rotation speed, and use animation to transition between tabs. Both the toggled content and the tabbed content shortcodes can be adapted to any page size.
The ET Shortcodes plugin also allows you to place a slideshow and an image slider within your content. Both the slideshow and image slider support an unlimited number slides and images. Both also support auto rotation between slides or images, the setting of the rotation speed, and the adjustment of the transition effects.
If you want to password protect your content, you can do so with the protected shortcode. Only those who are members will be able to open and view the content after logging in. The tooltip shortcode allows you to hover over a text and show additional information without adding extra clutter to your post. You can also add social media badges with the ET Shortcodes plugin. The social media badges make it super easy for your readers to share your content.
The ET Shortcodes plugin also allows you to use the author shortcode to add an author biography at the end of each blog post. You can also add testimonials to your website to let visitors know what your customers think about your products by using the testimonial shortcode. If you have various products that you plan on selling through your website, you can use a shortcode for pricing tables. This shortcode will create corporate pricing tables, where you can list the table title, table description, price, and the features associated with the products.
The columns layout shortcode allows you to create columns in halves, thirds, fourths, and two-thirds. Custom icon lists can be applied to your page or post with the custom list shortcode. You can also use a shortcode to add drop caps to your post. This shortcode also allows you control the color, size, and font face of the drop cap. If you want to pull out a quote from one of your blog posts to make it stand out, there is also a shortcode for that.
The ET Shortcodes plugin comes with many different shortcodes that you can use to design and organize your pages and posts. These shortcodes will improve the functionality of your content without the need to learn advanced web development techniques.
The Anticipate plugin is a “coming soon” maintenance mode plugin. Anticipate comes with a progress bar and an animated countdown timer. This lets any visitors to your website know the progress, in percentage, you have made in the creation of your website as well as the amount of time left before your website is officially launched.
For those visitors that are interested in subscribing to your email list, the Anticipate plugin also includes an email collection form. This allows you to start building a list before you even launch your website. The Anticipate plugin also allows you to add social networking icons to the “coming soon” page. This allows you to build an online following even before the launch of your website.
Elegant Themes (ET) Builder
ET Builder is another drag and drop page builder offered by Elegant Themes. If you want to easily create advanced layout options, then the ET Builder plugin is for you. This plugin allows you to resize, arrange, and add advanced elements onto your page. You can easily create different sized columns and add various modules onto the page or post. The modules that can be added with the ET Builder are logos, papers, videos, testimonials, slogans, image sliders, buttons, horizontal bars, lists, toggles, tabs, simple sliders, pricing tables, boxes, text blocks, widget area, and images.
Premium Support and Perpetual Updates
Premium support and perpetual updates is another great reason to buy the lifetime access plan. For as long as you are a member of Elegant Themes, you have access to their support forum. If you truly want to customize your website, you may just need this support.
Many theme shops do not provide perpetual updates. This is not the case with Elegant Themes as long as you remain a member of their community. What is the point of having a well coded theme if you don’t receive perpetual updates? WordPress is constantly updating, so it makes sense for Elegant Themes to be constantly updating to be compatible with the latest version of WordPress.
Responsive and Search Engine Optimized
Not all of the themes offered by Elegant Themes are responsive, mobile friendly themes. However, any theme offered by Elegant Themes can be made responsive with the Handheld plugin. Mobile friendly websites tend to rank higher in search engines because they are more user friendly. For this reason, it is important to choose a responsive, mobile-friendly website.
The themes offered by Elegant Themes are Search Engine Optimized. Under the Divi < Theme Options setting on the WordPress dashboard, there is a special section for SEO. Under this SEO setting, you can optimize the Homepage SEO, Single Post Page SEO, and Index Page SEO. You can also enable custom titles, meta descriptions, meta keywords, and canonical URLs. This alone will not help you rank on the first page of Google; however, it definitely is a good start.
